An event for all West Midlands' DPOs

We are writing to invite you to this event being held jointly between the UK Disabled Peoples' Council (UKDPC) and the Council of Disabled People Warwickshire and Coventry (CDP). This will be held at the Coventry Rugby Club, Coventry, on Thursday 25th March.
There is a lot of different Independent Living activity taking place right now. All this activity can seem confusing. It can also feel like different people are trying to do the same thing! And it can seem like people are wasting valuable resources when DPOs are struggling to stay afloat.
For this reason we have decided to talk about Independent Living at this event. We have brought together the National, Regional and Local perspectives, to give you and your organisation an opportunity to hear what is going on in the West Midlands, and to participate in deciding what the next steps for the region should be.
At this event we will be looking at what Independent Living means for disabled people in the West Midlands. The national organisation Disability LIB (Listen, Include, Build) will set the scene for the day and we will then hear from the Department of Health (DH) about their Regional Personalisation activity. UKDPC will respond with a critical analysis of the DH agenda and outline what it is doing at the moment to help disabled people live as independently as they wish. Stoke Disability Solutions will give the good, bad, and the ugly on setting up a ULO and working with the DH, and the Regional Disability Network project team will share progress to date and ask for input from you as to what the next steps will be.
There will be other UKDPC Regional Forum events around the country later in 2010. If you are unable to attend this West Midlands Event, then you are welcome to come to another event that is closer to you.
If you know of DPOs in the West Midlands who might be interested in this event please let them know. We would like as many people as possible to know about these events, to give everyone the chance to hear about what is going on. Information is power!
