Make ‘Em Laugh
What role can laughter play in getting and maintaining mental health and wellbeing? From Patch Adams to Carol Batton, we'll look at ways people have used humour in the mental health field. We'll consider the view of Re-evaluation
Counseling, that laughter is part of our natural healing system, and also look at the work of the Laughter Network. Finally we'll look at how Plato, Marx, Jean-Paul Sartre and others answered that fundamental human question, 'why did the chicken cross the road'.
Me, Myself, I
All of us have probably experienced feeling like different people at different times (for example, it's unlikely that you talk to your bank manager in the same way you would talk to a child). These different ‘bits' of us, or subpersonalities, are unconscious processes that have developed to enable us to cope with different situations throughout our lives. For example, within me there is a ‘rebel' and an ‘intellectual', a ‘carer' and a ‘risk-taker', and an ‘organizer' and a ‘procrastinator' (to name but a few). They are all fairly comfortably crowded into one single person – me. Often they are far from being at peace with one another! Using a creative approach, the purpose of this short introductory workshop is to identify some of your own subpersonalities, allowing you to recognise what drives you in your lives and what ‘bits' of you conflict with other people.
